"An investment in knowledge still yields the best interest". (Benjamin Franklin) The aim of this paper is to present the pedagogical possibilities as well as the challenges and also to deal with the prerequisites for the optimal technical use, the conditions for the implementation of the teaching didactics and methods corresponding to the medium as well as the necessary evaluation of the use of IWB in order to minimise possible disadvantages. For this purpose, the literature available for the research questions is analysed using the hermeneutic method and the relevant results from this are included in the work as well as the evaluation of the statements of a series of interviews with teachers at the University of Teacher Education in Vienna using a content analysis according to Mayring. The result of this work is that the interactive whiteboard is accepted by the teachers and used in many teaching units, but despite this, many measures must be taken to support the teachers and thus also the learners.
