The problem of the disappearance of traditional leisure activities and games is currently receiving renewed interest as a reaction to globalization, which is synonymous with standardization and loss of identity, but also because of the attention paid to the educational values that cultures carry. The dialectic between playful tradition and modernity is at the heart of our reflection. Traditional games and leisure activities, which are part of the ethnomotor heritage and represent a symbol of the cultural diversity of our societies, have been supplanted in the last century by modern ludic practices, including international global exercise games, imported leisure activities or imported games and toys. An ethnographic approach by direct observation, centered on the traditional leisure activities and games of Abomey, makes it possible to highlight the process of disappearance and the stakes of their revitalization by identifying the factors of their disappearance and formulating the strategies allowing their safeguarding and promotion.
