Born in 1952, Edinburgh author Gordon Lawrie began writing fiction back in 2010, having previously been better known for his journalism and essays on citizenship studies. After working part-time for a year, he gave up his job as a teacher for good in 2011 and eventually his first novel Four Old Geezers And A Valkyrie was published in 2012. He followed this up with a number of short stories - including The Piano Exam, included in this collection. His next full-length novel, The Blogger Who Came In From The Cold, is scheduled for publciation in 2018. In addition to writing, Lawrie also founded Comely Bank Publishing, a self-publishing collective dedicated to producing high-quality fiction. So far, six authors' work have been accepted for publication.
