Francis Channing Woodworth (1812 - June 5, 1859) was an American writer, printer, and preacher, known for his contributions to children's literature. Born in Colchester, Connecticut, he initially worked as a printer before becoming a preacher. However, due to health issues, he left the ministry and focused on writing, often under the pen name Theodore Tinker. Woodworth is perhaps best remembered for his work as the editor of The Youth's Cabinet, a magazine aimed at young readers, published by his brother D. Austin Woodworth. He specialized in writing juvenile literature that combined engaging stories with moral lessons, encouraging virtues such as honesty, kindness, and good character. Some of his key works include Stories for Little Folks, Stories About Birds and Beasts (1850), Stories About the Country (1850), and The Diving Bell; Or, Pearls to Be Sought For, a collection of fables aimed at teaching life lessons to children. His contributions helped shape 19th-century American children's literature, offering both entertainment and moral guidance.
