The goal we have set ourselves with this series of four volumes, written in four hands, is to give an overall picture of the Divisions formed by the Army of the R.S.I. to the departments used in the fight against the partisans by the Republican National Army, starting from the last months of 1943, offering a purely military point of view, free from judgments of any kind.The purpose of "continuing the war" had always been present since the beginning of autumn 1943 in the military authorities of the Social Republic. During talks between three Mussolini and Hitler it was agreed to form a new fascist army, which, in the intentions of the Fuhrer, was to be made up of an army of 10/15 divisions. In reality, only 4 were planned and formed by the Republican National Army: 1st Bersaglieri Division "Italy", 2nd Grenadiers Division "Littorio", 3rd Marine Division "San Marco", 4th Alpine Division "Monterosa".This first volume is dedicated to the Division "Italy", which operated on the southern front in Garfagnana, against the Allies, until the end of the conflict.

Paolo Crippa (23 aprile 1978) coltiva sin dai tempi del Liceo la passione per la Storia italiana, soprattutto della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Le sue ricerche si incentrano soprattutto nel campo della storia militare ed in particolare sulle unit. corazzate a partire dagli anni '30 fino alla fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Nel 2006 pubblica il suo primo volume, "I Reparti Corazzati della Repubblica Sociale Italiana 1943/1945", prima ricerca organica compiuta e pubblicata in Italia sull'argomento, a cui fanno seguito "Duecento Volti della R.S.I." (2007) e "Un anno con il 27° Reggimento Artiglieria Legnano" (2011). Ha all'attivo una quarantina di articoli per le riviste Milites, Historica Nuova, SGM - Seconda Guerra Mondiale, Batailes & Blindes, Mezzi Corazzati e Storia del Novecento, sia come autore, sia in collaborazione con altri ricercatori. Ha realizzato collaborazioni e consulenze per altri autori nella stesura di testi storico - uniformologici. Con Mattioli 1885 ha pubblicato "Italia 43 - 45 - I blindati di circostanza della Guerra Civile" (2014), "I mezzi corazzati della Guerra Civile 1943 -1945" (2015) e "Italia 43 - 45 - I mezzi delle unit. cobelligeranti" (2018). Dal 2020 è direttore della collana Witness to war di Soldiershop.
