When author Kate Ledger and her husband adopted Ion and Miss Irene, the book's feline models, they soon realized the animals had much to teach them about building a lasting relationship. Kate earned an M.F.A. degree in fiction from the University of Arizona and is working on her first novel. Photographer Lisa Sachs received an M.F.A. degree in photography from Yale University and has shown her artwork in galleries in New York and Paris. She works as a freelance photographer in Washington, D.C. The sisters-in-law both live in Maryland.
