Autorenporträt
Margaret Gillrie-Fraser became fascinated with dolphins during a trip to the world's largest natural aquarium. Motivated to learn more about these remarkable mammals, she started reading books by Dr. Horace Dobbs and became involved in research programs. As a Post Graduate Specialist in Human Growth & Development, her career working with children, teachers, administrators, and other professionals in the Education field led her to her commitment of writing 'FACTIONAL' books about dolphins. Aware of the need to educate children of the world, Margaret decided to write books that thrilled the readers with stories about the travels of her main dolphin character, Mattie (named as a tribute to Mattie Stepanek), while learning. Margaret wanted to fill the readers with awe of the magic that occurs in nature and the universe around us. She wanted to make learning fun and accessible to children everywhere. The philosophy of self-awareness, self-esteem, setting goals, and believing in them while assuming the responsibility of making a difference in the world are intrinsic to the 'soul' of her books. She addresses life lessons throughout the book while using critical thinking skills, creative thinking skills, and problem-solving skills in the way that her character approaches each challenge. Since writing her first novel, The Dolphin Way', Margaret has worked with Dr. Horace Dobbs (accredited with being a world leader in the study of dolphins) who led the International Symposium on Human Growth and Development Partnered with Dolphins, held in Mexico. Sponsored by a member of the German Royal Family, she was invited to be part of the steering committee in the development and running of the Symposium. She then was invited to Europe to learn more about new learning styles and research on child development by Institutes and Foundations attending the Symposium. Returning to Canada, Margaret was asked to serialize her book in conjunction with Tor-Star/ Metroland's, 'Newspaper in Education' program. The response to the serialization of her book was a resounding success. They have committed to the sequel. Margaret has also been a guest of the Clearwater Aquarium in Florida where she met the most famous dolphin in the world, WINTER! Margaret has completed research on the scientific purpose of dolphins and whales in maintaining the ecological balance of the planet, which will also be published shortly. She continues to enjoy interacting with readers and students and sharing stories and information about dolphins and whales in their natural habitat. She is presently completing the second novel 'The Dolphin Way - The Search Begins'.
