Autorenporträt
Frank L. Packard (1877-1942) was a Canadian author best known for his action-packed crime fiction and adventure novels. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Packard initially pursued a career as a civil engineer, working on railroads and other infrastructure projects. This experience gave him firsthand knowledge of the railroad industry, which would later become a recurring setting in many of his novels. His background in engineering informed the technical details and authenticity in his writing, particularly in works like The Wire Devils. Packard began his literary career in the early 20th century, quickly gaining recognition for his thrilling plots, memorable characters, and inventive use of criminal masterminds. His protagonists often found themselves entangled in complex situations involving secret codes, wire tapping, and organized crime, giving his stories a distinctive flair. One of his most famous creations is Jimmie Dale, a gentleman thief who operates under the alias "The Gray Seal," featured in several of Packard's novels. Packard's writing is known for its fast-paced action, suspense, and vivid depictions of criminal underworlds. He was a prolific author, and his works, especially The Wire Devils, remain popular among readers who enjoy classic crime and adventure fiction.
