Rural-urban migration has been the basic factor for population growth of Ethiopian urban centres. The country s rate of rural-urban migration has been showing a linear increase from time to time particularly since the beginning of the second half of the twentieth century. Consequently, urban population growth, in the absence of corresponding economic growth, has already become a great problem for Ethiopia. Rural-urban migration has been conditioned by the interplay of different factors which operate at different levels. There are individual or houshold level factors as there are institutional or structural fators at national and international levels. This book dicusses the multi-determinants of rural-urban migration in Ethiopia in relation to the existing theories or paradigms on rural-urban migration. As it sheds considerable light on many salient but yet unnoticed issues of rural-urban migration, the analysis in this work can serve policy makers and development planners to be caucious in their approaches to rural-urban migration.
