In this volume the question of static phonetic prerequisites to speech production is briefly examined. The central problem of the dynamics of speech production is addressed in Chapter Two. The problem is approached in a hierarchical and multi-stage framework. A chapter on spatial features focuses on a less explored aspect of speech production. The closing chapter briefly considers peripheral and central speech deficits, since they have an impact on the degree of "normalcy" of speech production.
