The Edinburgh Companion to Twentieth-Century Scottish Literature Edited by Ian Brown & Alan Riach This volume considers the major themes, texts and authors of Scottish literature of the twentieth and, so far, twenty-first century. It identifies the contexts and impulses that led Scottish writers to adopt their creative literary strategies. The volume's innovative thematic structure ensures that the most important texts or authors are seen from different perspectives whether in the context of empire, renaissance, war and post-war, literary genre and language. These thematic chapters are complemented by chronological 'Arcade' chapters, which outline the contexts of the literature of the period by decades. Autorenporträt
Ian Brown is Emeritus Professor in Drama at Kingston University and Honorary Senior Research Fellow in Scottish Literature at Glasgow University. He is the General Editor of The Edinburgh History of Scottish Literature (EUP: 2007) and widely published on aspects of theatre and literature. He is also a playwright and poet. Alan Riach holds the Chair of Scottish Literature at Glasgow University. He is the General Editor of the Collected Works of Hugh MacDiarmid and the author of Representing Scotland in Literature, Popular Culture and Iconography (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005) and Hugh MacDiarmid's Epic Poetry (Edinburgh University Press, 1991). His fifth book of poems, Homecoming (Luath Press) will be published in 2009.
