Dear readers, in this space I would like to thank and pay tribute to my friend and master's and doctoral advisor, Prof. Dr. Marcos Pinotti, with whom I spent seven years at UFMG's Lab Bio. He coordinated the Bioengineering Laboratory (Lab-Bio), dedicated to the areas of Cardiovascular Engineering, Biophotonics, Assistive Technology, Biomimetics, Regenerative Medicine and Biomechanics, and the Laboratory for Research Applied to Neurovision (Lapan), specializing in neuroscience, neural vision, cognition processes and information technology applied to neuroscience. Pinotti was elected one of the world's 100 most important scientists in the field of bioengineering by the International Union of Societies of Biomaterial and Engineering Sciences. This book is the fruit of the work carried out by Prof. Pinotti, who welcomed a physiotherapist into his laboratory in 2002 and has always sought to bring engineering and health professionals closer together in order to produce knowledge and technologies for the good of humanity. Pinotti passed away in January 2016 in Russia, leaving a great legacy for world science and much to be missed.
