The effects of dietary nitrate on athletic performance is still a young field of research. Previous research by significant authors has been on elite athletes who are currently competing professionally on a regular basis. However, this area lacks research on the ergogenic effects on a healthy and active population, which enjoy exercising for personal and competitive reasons. I investigated the effects of 2 x 70 mL concentrated shots of beetroot juice on a sub maximal and maximal exercise test. For this testing I used state of the art equipment at Leeds Beckett University to test each participants: blood lactate, heart rate, respiratory exchange ratio, submaximal VO2 and maximal VO2.
