Does resistance training for sports have to be performed at the same velocities the respective sport is played at? The specificity of training principle indicates that we should match our training with the sport we play as much as possible. In contrast, a lot of resistance training programs incorporate high loads at low velocities while participating in high velocity sporting activities. Is there any benefit to the offseason/preseason heavy slow lifting or does this training have a negative or neutral effect on sports performances at high velocities? This dissertation addresses and analyzes these very questions.
