Born at home in Oregon in 1944, Roy Mullen grew up in a large family with very little, developing a passion for written art very early on. From a young age, his short stories and poetry were often submitted for school and amateur writing contests. He adopted his love for the outdoors from his father, who taught him to hunt and appreciate the calm and serenity only nature can provide. Losing his father during a hunt at 16, his connection to the outdoors grew deeper. After college and serving in the military, setting his own wants aside, Roy raised five children in Idaho, dedicating himself to his family and community in numerous ways, such as serving as a police officer. With his children grown, retirement offered Roy the opportunity to return to his own passions, writing and the outdoors.
