The legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the
Round Table has played a significant role in English
literature and culture for hundreds of years.
Furthermore, in the Middle Ages, not only the English
were inspired by these stories but also several
nations of the Continent. Among others, Chrétien de
Troyes and Marie de France chose Arthur and his
knights as central figures of many of their works.
Nevertheless, the French approach to the Arthurian
myth seems to be quite different from the English
one. Events or heroes who are described in a very
detailed way in the English versions sometimes are
not even mentioned in any of the French works. In
this monograph, the quest to be accomplished is to
find possible reasons for the different approaches
and it will hopefully satisfy the Humble Reader s
expectations.
