Access to water, sanitation and a clean and safe environment are human rights as enshrined in the 2013 Zimbabwe national constitution, occupying a special place in the process of socio-economic transformation. Availability of public water, sanitation, clean environment and hygienic facilities in this context become essential as they play a complementary role to domestic and private facilities ensuring a sound environmental health situation. The aim of this book is to establish the essence of water, sanitation and environmental health for socio -economic transformation in Zimbabwe in the new millennium. In that context, the book explains the obtaining state of affairs characterized by inadequate water supply, poor sanitation and hygiene services as well as unhealthy solid waste management practices in Zimbabwe. Major findings of the contribution constitute citing that insufficient institutional capacity, population overload and public sector misplaced priorities are the causes of sewerage system blockages, non-collection of solid waste and declining overall WASH related service quality.

Tarisai Mike Nyamucherera is a development researcher (in the broad sense of development studies) who holds an MSc in Social Ecology and a BSc Tourism Management from the University of Zimbabwe. His academic qualifications are combination of a passion for understanding the tourism business and a passion for sustainable conservation initiatives.
