This work aimed to analyse the historical and methodological foundations of Social Work, the scope of Marxism as a hegemonic matrix within the professional category and the contemporary "postmodern threat" in the face of the advances of the capitalist system in its new configurations. We sought to understand the historical and methodological foundations of the profession and the responses offered by different authors to contemporary society.
