The first volume presents 538 photographs from the excavations at the site itself, in the cemetery an in the immediate surroundings. Their interpretation is faciliated by 48 general and detailed plans which also supply a new presentation of the architecture. The synthesis of field notes, written by R. de Vaux himself and presented according to loci, offers the best commentary on the excavations photographs. In addition to the excavations is provided, including the coins as analyzed during the excavations by Father Augustus Spijkerman. An appendix provides a repertory of photographs of the Qumran excavations; it assembles 14 lots of various origin and may possibly be supplemented by further lots not yet located.
