Steve's formative experiences-combined with a love of a great story-led him to writing. Born and raised in Africa, his early years were spent in boarding school in the rural, Great Lakes region of the Congo. Strict rules competed with freewheeling boyhood adventures to feed a creative, curious mind and established ideas about authority and the world. There was plenty to fuel the imagination: gunfire in the streets of Kisangani, evacuation by Belgian and American mercenaries from Kinshasa, days-long trips through the rainforest by Land Rover, a boat trip on the Nile complete with 20-ft crocs and giant hippos, seeing (and eating) animals of all types, hunting birds of every description, learning two African languages-young Steve had plenty to ponder. Later, in a new Pacific Northwest landscape, Steve studied architecture, explored spiritual frontiers, and helped build a family while working in software startups and marketing agencies. This continued to provide fertile ground for deep thinking about the nature of things. Today, Steve continues to create story worlds, characters, prequels and sequels-and further absorb and appreciate life's gifts.
