Humans settled on New Earth, a planet colonized a thousand years earlier by Admiral Gordon, who had discovered it in conditions similar to prehistoric Earth. All scientists agreed to accept the onion universe theory, and the Ancient Laws mandated that all species colonize the universe of Layer One, while prohibiting travel to the outer layers. The new technologies that allowed for the transfer of an individual's mind from their natural body to an artificial one revolutionized the meaning of life. Time took on a completely different significance, and death could be avoided simply by transferring the mind into an artificial body before the biological decline of the natural body. The entire known universe lives in peace, searching for new species to help evolve and become part of the Federation. Suddenly, a dark threat endangers the harmony of Layer One. It will once again be Admiral Gordon, along with his ancient collaborators, who confront this dark force.
