The fear free mind is simply jaw-dropping. There is more information on one page than the entirety of most self-help books, even if the author believes that words transmit no information. O'Donovan re-examines ancient and modern concepts starting with what he calls "The basics", being the nature of perception, what knowledge is and how memory works. His mechanistic approach to mind is simultaneously simpler, more direct and more intuitive than traditional Western models, which are gently negated by the proposed perspectives. Reading this book is an intimate, iterative experience. The language is sweeping and poetic and the writing is extremely dense. Its voice never stops bouncing, effortlessly moving through libraries of information, constantly dropping asides and one-liners. The only thing you will want to do when you finish reading it for the first time, is to read it again. O'Donovan describes it as an attempt to accomplish two things: 1. Remove fear from the human mind and 2. provide a "user's manual" for System One (where he says you now are). It's also very funny.
