Acupuncture represents an interesting alternative in the treatment of pain. However, some patients are still reluctant to have acupuncture. This fear of receiving such treatment could be due to a phobia of needles. Fear of needles or acupuncture was nonsignificantly associated with women, whereas fear of adverse effects was similar in both sexes. We noted the lack of association between age and fear.
