When my girlfriend introduced me to a friend of hers and I fell in love with that friend, our relationship was inevitably steered into a storm that would leave us all stranded by the end of this book. This is the story of a love triangle plagued by jealousy, age differences, past trauma and sheer malevolent coincidence. A story without a climax, full of disappointment and regrets. The reader is lured into sympathizing with the nameless protagonist at first, only to be slowly disabused of this sympathy chapter by chapter and decision by decision. Inspired by Nabakov's "Lolita", this is the book for people who want to read romance with a constant feeling of dread and discomfort. You are perpetually waiting for the next mistake and the drop of the other shoe.

There was, of course, always the option to claim that this is a work of pure fiction and all scenes described only figments of my imagination. But there is a harrowing factor to reading this story and knowing that this happened. These people were out there, did these things and they still live somewhere in that unnamed city.
