At the time, The Four Just Men was the most ambitious film series yet made for British TV. It was produced by Sapphire Films at Walton Studios and on location in Britain, France, and Italy. The four characters had met during World War II. After the war, the four men met again, and decided to fight injustice and against tyranny wherever they find it, using money donated for this purpose by their late commanding officer. The series was based on several novels by Edgar Wallace which detailed the adventures of the four men. Only all four of them appear together in the initial episode. After that, one was the star of each episode-although one or two of the others always made a brief appearance-usually by telephone.
