According to the views of her culture, thirty-something Ahdia is long overdue for marriage. In fact, her parents are so concerned about her not being married that they are considering planning an arranged marriage. It's not that Ahdia is against marriage. On the contrary, she understands her biological clock is ticking, and she truly seeks a committed relationship with a man who shares her dreams and her values. But Ahdia knows firsthand that finding a perfect man-her soul mate-is not an easy task. And, because her parents were divorced, she realizes the impact a failed marriage can have on a couple and their children. She's been careful when approaching the possibility of a long-term relationship. This novel follows Ahdia and the relationships she has experienced throughout her dating years. "The Fourth Finger" shares a woman's perspective on the innermost thoughts and feelings about the important and timeless issues of dating, family, marriage, love, children, and divorce.
The Fourth Finger narrates the story of Ahdia a beautiful young woman that seems to have been able to accomplish all life has to offer except a successful love relationship. Love seems to hate her, and eludes her every time she thinks she has finally found the perfect man. She hopelessly and tirelessly goes through heartbreaking relationships leaving her to doubt her own ability to love and be loved. To compound her problems, she is from a conservative Islamic African background that views marriage and child rearing as a necessity/obligation for every woman. She represents a clash of cultures and is ultimately torn in between accepting her African or Western cultural belief systems pertaining to gender, marriage, love, and divorce.
