After an illicit liaison with his mistress, the owner of a private sanitation company in New York is murdered. His wife, aware of the affair, first believes it could be the motivation for the killing. But when her garbage truck drivers are attacked by her husbands "associates", The District Attorney assigns Detective Frank Miranda to infiltrate the organized crime family running the garbage cartel. Family values are questioned.... temptation and loneliness create unfortunate bedfellows. This is not a typical "mob murder mystery" story... instead, it has great moments of comedy, with colorful stories about him driving a 30 ton garbage truck with no experience, and how he hits almost everything in sight aside from a human being! Yet, it simultaneously takes you into the inner world of an "infiltrator" and the personal decisions and sacrifices he made daily. It delves into the toll taken on the loved ones around him; his wife, his family and his friends. This work succeeds at touching your emotions: sadness, anger, love and laughter.
Autorenporträt
Frank Santorsola was one of a select few in law enforcement who was assigned to infiltrate the Italian mob in New York. His life as a deep undercover cop forced him to live in the shadows with the persona of a guy with a criminal mind. His life was in constant danger. He was always aware that meeting someone he knew might cause his true identity to be revealed. If the recording device he wore were discovered, death could be instant. Not many men have the affinity to do such work, but he was successful in ingratiating himself into the mob by playing the role of a small time thief. The mob was not accepting of his right of passage into their secret life, and in their paranoia, they followed him home, broke into his covert apartment, searching for signs that he might be a cop, or worse, an informant. They even had a dirty cop, who was on their payroll, run Frank through the departments computer system to see if he was law enforcement. As time went on, he earned their trust, and became a big money earner for the gangsters he was attempting to arrest. After years of deep undercover assignments, Frank was appointed as the Chief of Detectives for the Westchester County District Attorneys Office in New York. He has since retired and enjoys writing books about his adventures as a 27 year member of law enforcement.
