Autorenporträt
Dr. Lola Gulyamova is a geographer at the Tashkent State Technical University and Uzbekistan National University and currently serves as the Chair of the Board of the Fulbright Association of Uzbekistan. She is also a member of the Association of American Geographers. Gulyamova was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar in 1996 - 1997 with the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she studied rural populations in arid zones. She received her doctor's degree from Moscow State University. She has more than 35 years of professional experience and worked in countries such as the U.S.A., Netherlands, Russia, Belarus, Estonia and of course Uzbekistan. Her scientific interests are in the field of GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and remote sensing methods used for the study of rural and urban populations. She also specializes in social matters and gender issues. As chairwoman of the Board of the Fulbright Association of Uzbekistan Dr. Lola Gulyamova organizes about 4 round-tables and seminars a year. Participants generally include Fulbright alumni as well as representatives from non-governmental organizations, the Ministries of Justice and Education, the Institute of Study of Civil Society, academia and businesses. The events are a way to share ideas on important issues and exchange experience and knowledge on theoretical, scientific and practical issues. The Fulbright Association of Uzbekistan has been promoting scholarly activities in Uzbekistan since 2001.
