The book reviews the geology of Iceland in relation to that of the mid-ocean ridges. It explains the tectonic setting of Iceland as the only large subaerial part of the mid-ocean ridges system. A detailed description of the general geology is given, but the focus of the book is on the volcano-tectonic activity in Iceland, including central volcanoes, calderas, plutons, swarms of faults and fissures, dyke emplacement, and earthquakes. The book contains many line drawings, maps, photographs and tables, illustrating and summarizing the above topics, and a very detailed bibliography.
