J.J. Viertel is the pseudonym used by the father-son writing team of Jack and Josh Viertel who live in Deer Isle, Maine, and Wingdale and Tarrytown, New York. After college they began very different careers--Jack as a theater critic, and later a producer, dramaturge and Artistic Director, Josh as a farmer and the president of Slow Food USA. Josh is the founder of Harlem Valley Homestead in Wingdale, New York, whose mission is to bring people together on a beautiful working farm to share work, food, and learning. Jack has taught theater-writing at NYU and is the author of the New York Times bestseller The Secret Life of the American Musical and the novel Broadway Melody. Josh is an expert fly fisherman and bow hunter, and Jack is a longtime scuba diver and barbecue chef. Jack is married to Linda (Josh's mother). Josh has a son, Gabriel, with his partner Rebbeca Parech.
