Sheriff Maxwell Wilcox has dedicated his life to taking action and defending the vulnerable, but all that changes when he is forced to watch, paralyzed and helpless, as his wife succumbs to cancer. Broken by his grief, Wilcox seeks solace in the wild emptiness of Southern Oregon where he's offered a temporary position as Sheriff of Jackson County. The locals are good, salt-of-the-earth people, and Wilcox finds himself drawn to the district's medical examiner, Dr. Heather Stone, whose sharp intellect and friendship leave him heartened-and conflicted. But the Rogue Valley's quiet calm is about to be shattered. A body has been found, and it isn't the usual road accident or drug overdose. The victim's remains are mutilated, and according to eyewitnesses, the cadaver dropped out of thin air from the sky. The facts are baffling, then more panicked calls start to light up the 911 lines... Sheriff Wilcox came to the Rogue Valley to find peace, but instead he's grappling with a growing conspiracy that's unimaginable and born of pure malice. To protect the community he now calls home, Wilcox must resolve the pain of his past and defeat an evil more significant than any he's faced before. Torn between a past love, and a new one, Sheriff Maxwell Wilcox tries to focus on the job-at-hand while bodies are piling up in his jurisdiction. Unfamiliar with the local area, and unfamiliar with the personnel in the Sheriff's department he now leads he is faced with an improbable task of solving federal crimes. He makes a phone call to a friend and colleague who works for the FBI. Deaths, and events spiral out of control, and just when he thinks the Sheriff's department may have a lead on what is transpiring the county medical examiner, and his new love interest, is attacked. Local municipalities rally around the suspect and leave the sheriff with the difficult task of solving the crimes and potentially pissing off his new employer.

Autorenporträt
The Good Sheriff began to take shape one spring afternoon on a visit to the covered bridge in Wimer, Oregon. After snapping a few photos, I set out on a scenic drive to Eagle Point, winding along a narrow mountain road. I came across a woman from Southern California, stranded in her car after an unexpected snowstorm. I spent the next hour helping free her vehicle, and the encounter got me thinking about the vulnerability of people in the rugged, remote Pacific Northwest areas. Small towns have their secrets, and in wild places like these, strange events can unfold without a soul knowing. With this backdrop in mind, Sheriff Maxwell Wilcox emerged-a man who, alongside some unforgettable characters, confronts unusual threats and finds himself in a high-stakes, twisting thriller.
