Stories are the stuff of life -- they entertain us, inspire us, teach us, and shape us. This is a book of stories and we think they're good ones! Delmer Chilton writes the way he speaks, in the Appalachian drawl that has mesmerized generations of mountain children and their elders. To say that his voice is unique does not do it justice. You have to sit for a spell and listen, and -- when you do -- you come away knowing that you just got to know a little bit of Delmer and that you have somehow been moved to laughter, or tears, or just to a pleasant sort of musing. The subtitle for the book is "Stories of Family and Faith." That's a true description, though you will find no sermonizing or philosophizing within these pages. Whatever lessons there are to be learned will most likely be those that you bring with you, and that you may find evoked in the telling and listening. Whatever else "The Gospel According to Aunt Mildred" is, it is an offering from the heart of a keen observer and a man who has both marveled at and occasionally been stumped by life. Read and enjoy -- and hopefully you will be inspired to tell a few stories of your own!
