The Gospel Feast: Proclaiming the Gospel Through the Lord's Supper is a call for the pastors, officers, seminary teachers, and interested laypersons of the evangelical church to rediscover Christ's intention for the Lord's Supper. The Sacrament of Communion has suffered from an increasing trend of neglect in the life and worship of many of today's churches. As the Supper is less frequently observed and less frequently taught to God's people, its biblical use as a proclamation of Jesus' saving death, until he comes, has been all but forgotten. The basis for the Lord's Supper as a means for proclaiming the Gospel is embedded in Paul's teaching in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26. The Gospel Feast begins with this biblical basis for celebrating the Supper and then proceeds to explore the history of Eucharistic practices from Apostolic times through the Reformation and to its diminished use in the modern era. This book makes the case that the Lord's Supper, as a means of visual gospel proclamation, alongside spoken gospel proclamation, offers the church of Jesus Christ a rich, encouraging, and dynamic tool for lifting high the cross of Christ. The churches of the 21st century will find tremendous blessing and kingdom power in the rediscovery and renewed celebration of the Lord's Supper as Gospel Feast. A companion volume, Gospel Feasting: 104 Lord's Supper Devotions from the Old and New Testaments, is also available to assist churches in Lord's Supper renewal.
