Studies on the governance of the firm have been traditionally grounded in economic theories of the firm. While those theories have certainly been useful to explain particular aspects of the governance of corporations in the last century, some voices in the fields of economics and strategic management have started to articulate an extended view of the governance of the firm. In the three papers of this dissertation I contribute to this extended view of firm governance by providing new theoretical insights and additional empirical evidence on this topic.
