The GERD continued to generate lots of buzz in the Ethiopian scene starting from its announcement. It is also considered as a ringing bell to the foreign policy strategy of the rest Nile riparians; because the dam could affect the national interest of the co-basin states positively or negatively; and it may also serves as an exemplary project to other upstream states in terms of initiating similar activities on the Nile river waters. As to the author's knowledge, however, in the Eastern Nile basin context, no study has been done in examining media coverage of huge dam constructions on the Nile River. So this knowledge gap attracted the writer to conduct a study by taking the magnanimous GERD project as a specific case, which aims at assessing how the national and global press covered it. This book has been written with due care is ready to throw ample light to media houses. It helps them to recognize their weak spots and thereby take corrective measures in relation to their shortcomings. I do hope that the book will cater appealing information at least for media students, researchers, professionals, policymakers, and donors that may involve in funding big hydropower projects.
