Everywhere Skylor goes, she is delighted to see the Great Red Cardinal tagging along her whereabouts. "The Great Red Cardinal (when I see you in the trees)" will have you flying high and will also steer you through the lows so you won't feel like you are going through life alone. Skylor takes delight in seeing her favorite bird in times where she is joyous but also when she is heavyhearted and missing a loved one who has passed on. The Red Cardinal signifies strength, hope, and a messenger of comfort from loved ones who still walk with us in spirit after passing away. Skylor and her Mother as well as her classmates all share the same feelings about the red Cardinal, and find the world a brighter place with its presence. At the close of the book, Skylor has a class presentation about what is special to her and she decides to make her presentation about the Cardinal. To her surprise the Cardinal stoops over to see her during art class. Skylor, Mr. Edwards and her classmates begin to marvel at the beautiful Bird. This unexpected visit during her presentation makes for a good ending to her class project. A Word Search and I-Spy activity is found at the end of the book enjoyable for children and adults alike!
