Leroy V. Quintana is a major force in contemporary poetry. Author of five previous books of poetry and twice winner of the Before Columbus Foundation American Book Award, Mr. Quintana is represented in numerous anthologies and his work has been the subject of several studies. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1944 and served in Vietnam during 1967-68, where he kept a notebook that became the source for many of his poems. At present, he is Professor of English at San Diego Mesa College.
