Laura Fargas was born in Berkeley and was educated at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and the Iowa Writers Workshop. For 27 years, she worked for the federal government, specializing in occupational safety and health litigation. Her previous publications include Reflecting What Light We Can't Absorb (Riverstone Press 1993) and An Animal of the Sixth Day (Texas Tech University Press 1996).
