When I decided to volunteer for a worthy cause, I never thought that my volunteer work would become a second career. Volunteering in hospitals and care centres is not always about the ailing and the dying. Through the years, I have met some of the most hilarious, memorable seniors who have a no-holds-barred attitude when it comes to expressing their thoughts about anything. The rewarding work of a volunteer is not without its moments of grief, such as that experienced when losing someone who has become more than a stranger, but after nearly forty years of community service, the people I have had the privilege to know have shown me how to live my life to the fullest, and how to prepare myself to leave this mortal coil.

Autorenporträt
Henry Andrew is no stranger to volunteerism, giving nearly four decades of his time and musical skill for community service in hospitals and senior residences or raising funds for nonprofit organizations. He was awarded the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers from the Governor General of Canada, in recognition of his significant volunteer contributions. The book marks the author's first foray into nonfiction. The humour and sensitivity of his stories of the people he has touched do all of them justice. The reflections are genuinely touching and tear-inducing with his incredibly poignant recollections, with lessons that lie in the subtext of his words.
