1885. In the pages which follow, the author attempts to supply the existing want and to set forth, in an English history based upon various sources, the faith, works and sufferings of the Bohemian Brethren, as Reformers before the Reformation and as the fathers of the Moravian Church. The preparations for this history have been lectures which the author had been delivering in the Theological Seminary at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He endeavors to produce an authentic history in strict accordance with the sources at his command. At the same time, he has not hesitated to express his own opinions, and to correct what appeared to be wrong views, or unwarranted deductions on the part of other writers, especially of those who are Roman Catholics.
