Shirley Curtis creció en una granja de lowa con tres hermanas, un hermano, y siempre caballos. Creció amando a los caballos y alentó ese amor en su marido. Leer y escribir sobre caballos se convirtió en su salida con el paso del tiempo. Shirley ha sido publicada en "Horsemans Yankee Pedlar", el último número de Gaited Horse (con Elvis Presley) y otras revistas. el problema de Gaited Horse incluía fotografías del primer peruano de Shirley, un generoso regalo de su marido. A él se unieron otros dos. La familia de Shirley se mudó a Perú en 2012 y vivió allí hasta que fue necesario regresar a lowa. Conoció a muchos más caballos peruanos de paso y Llegué a amar a la gente de ese fascinante país.
