'Duke has got the scent of victory already!' the monarch cried, ignoring the fact that scents were found by nostrils rather than ears. 'Guards! Gather yourselves; gather all of my men. We march to the sea tonight!' Duke has been a war horse without a war to fight in for as long as he can remember. The King's prized possession lives a peaceful life within the Royal Stables, growing older in comfort, until news hits: war has come to Ardenic. With his regal master on his back, Duke is ready to charge down the enemy and bring peace back to the kingdom, not least due to his yearning for his cosy life with Edmar, the Master of the Stable. But the ageing monarch's war against the Prince of Scorland is ill-fated from the beginning, and Duke's journey into the heart of enemy territory becomes desperate. Will the King drag his entire army into an unstoppable downward spiral of bad luck and bloodshed? The Horse Who Fell In Scorland is a fantasy novella by Oskar Leonard, following the perspective of the inexperienced war horse Duke. Loyalty is tested, purposes are questioned, and not everyone is who they first appear to be.
