This work is an attempt to relate Linguistic Science to Literary Science. The goal is to demonstrate that the analytical tools of linguistics may provide fresh insights into the reading and interpretation or appreciation of literary works, such as J.P.Clark's Song of a Goat. The Speech Acts theories are employed in our analysis of the utterances of Ebere and Masseur. The relevant illocutionary forces of their utterances are examined to reveal the diagnosis of Ebere's seeming infertility. This approach shows clearly how meticulous and methodical Masseur is when he finally diagnoses the root cause of Ebere's infertility which ends in tragedy.
