This paper based on theoretical analysis and empirical research characterizes the "image of the family" in preschool children and their parents. The actual "image of a family" in a child and actual and retrospective "images of a family" in parents are analyzed. The actual "image of the family" is an "image of the family" formed and related to the present time interval. A retrospective "image of the family" is an "image of the family" that existed in the past, that is, in memories. In our case, the retrospective "image of a family" in parents is represented in the form of the "image of the ancestral family". The results of the research can be used in counseling parents, educators, and children, and work with projective techniques yields the best results, since preschool children perceive them with great interest. The work on the development and formation of an adequate "image of the family" should be conducted together with parents and children. The results of the study can be used in lecture courses on age psychology, family psychology, differential and social psychology.
