Since the middle of the 20th century, tropical forest has been reducing at an alarming rate, despite various efforts at local and international levels to curb deforestation. The depletion of forest and biodiversity underpinning it is a challenge, due to its socio-economic and environmental importance. The arguments have been that, unless trends change the consequences will be severe, an eventual compromise of forest sustainability and human well-being. This book thus provides a new management system which is based on synergy. This provision is to ensure that the state which is the lead agency in development practices and policies be influenced by the informal (society) power relations to ensure participatory development that can lead to forest sustainability. The analysis is structured to highlight the efficacy of synergy on sustainable management of natural resource and should be useful especially, to policy-makers, environmentalists and wild life conservationists, and development practitioners.
