Lukas de Blois is Professor of Ancient History at the Radboud University Nijmegen. He has published books and articles on the history of the Roman Empire in the third century A.D., the history of the Late Roman Republic, ancient historiography, Plutarch's biographies, and Greek Sicily in the fourth century B.C. He also published a manual (L. de Blois & R.J. van der Spek, Introduction to the Ancient World, London/ New York 1997). Elio Lo Cascio is Professor of Roman History at the University "La Sapienza" of Rome. His published work primarily focuses on three topics: the administrative history of the Principate and of the Late Empire; the economic and social history of Rome, and Roman population history and the impact of demographic change on the economy and society of Rome. His most recent publications include Il princeps e il suo impero. Studi di storia amministrativa e finanziaria romana, Bari 2000; and the edited volume Innovazione tecnica e progresso economico nel mondo romano, Bari 2006.
