The impacts of Covid-19 on tourism have been widely studied in several areas of the globe through various methodologies. Covid-19 has provided quite diverse economic, social and even environmental impacts in tourism destinations, and not all impacts are negative, since there has been time and space for restructuring of tourism supply quite significant for the future of tourism activity. This study aims to analyze how Covid-19 has influenced and impacted tourism activity in island destinations. Based on the case study of Madeira Island, a qualitative methodology is used with the technique of content analysis of news from the 2 main newspapers of the island. In a total of 431 news items identified, it was possible to create 38 categories, 55 subcategories and 10 secondary topics that characterize influences, relevant actors and regional tourism trends.

Arturo Sousa hat einen Abschluss in Tourismus, Freizeit und Kulturerbe von der Kunstfakultät der Universität Coimbra (FLUC) sowie einen Master in Freizeit, Kulturerbe und Entwicklung von der Kunstfakultät der Universität Coimbra. Derzeit ist er Student des Doktorandenprogramms für Tourismus an der Universität von Aveiro und Forschungsstipendiat des FCT.
