Pre - eclampsia is a medical condition in which hypertension occurs during pregnancy accompanied by significant amounts of protein in urine. It is one of the most dangerous complications of pregnancy and can often endanger both mother and baby. The true pathogenesis of pre - eclampsia remains unclear, and none of its clinical signs are specific, while final confirmation of diagnosis is the regression of these signs after birth. This publication represents a study on pre - eclampsia of 74 cases treated at the OB-GYN Department of the University Clinical Centre of Pristina. Epidemiological, clinical and laboratory data were collated and then after statistically processed and compared with the data collected from the control group of cases treated at the same health institution. This study confirmed that first pregnancy and older age of the pregnant women presents a risk factor for pre - eclampsia, as well as the influence of pre - eclampsia in intrauterine growth restriction. The study showed that pre - eclampsia presents a serious medical problem in Kosovo, while the health care services should be improved to deal in a more successful way with it.
