The major aim in understanding this research was to assess the practice of selected human resource management functions in Addis Ababa University in order to perform the training and development, Recruitment and Selection, Salary and benefits and retention activities in the institution. To this end, a descriptive survey research design was employed for the study. The samples were selected from Academic and Administration staffs of the colleges and schools of the university. The target population of the study were 360 staff members of Academic and supportive/Administration staffs with the objective of gaining completion of 197 Questionnaires. Judgment sampling method was employed to select the respondents. Questionnaire with a 54 close-ended and five open-ended questions and semi-structured interview were instruments used for the purpose of collecting data. Data collected through different tools were analyzed and interpreted both quantitatively and qualitatively. The SPSS (Statistics Package for Social Science) software was used to analyze the data collected, using descriptive and inferential statistics.
