The use of plastic bags has evolved exponentially over the last two (2) decades. The sachet has become the most widely used form of packaging in Niger because of its low price and practicality. It has replaced several other types of packaging, in particular paper packaging and household baskets made from vegetable matter. Plastic bags are generally single-use and have a very short shelf life, lasting no longer than the time it takes to run an errand. This book examines the issue of plastic waste, which is one of the major concerns facing many African cities today, and puts forward proposals for improving the current situation.
